I find when I drink just one cup of this tea, in the evenings, I don't have insomnia and I get a real good nites sleep
That should be a clue that it's got things in it that are immunomodulatory.
- Black tea
- cinnamon, cardamom,cloves, nutmeg
- Natural flavors? Ack! There's a great unknown. Who knows what it might be.
You need to give your body every chance to heal itself. Stick with the tried and true and expect to have eating and drinking be a bit dull for a couple of years. Sorry, but that's just how it is. If you find yourself eating or drinking something that makes you feel better, that is a red flag.

Are there ANY herbal teas that are acceptable on the MP?

Hi Vwmusum
I don't know the answer to your question but would also welcome an answer! I tried jasmine tea, but I really didn't like it.
I've been a big tea drinker (black and green) for a long time and to have nothing hot to drink throughout the day was more than I could cope with (on top of all the other MP restrictions).
One of my very few aberrations from the MP (I never cheat on anything Vit D related) is that I drink a lot of VERY weak peppermint tea. By weak I mean the tea bag is only in the cup for as long as it takes for the hot water to reach the top of the cup (which is not very long).
I drink maybe 4-5 cups/day. I have been doing this for the almost 2 years I have been on the MP. It does not appear to have significantly impeded my progress. I am NOT of course recommending it, just sharing my experience. For me, this risk was worth taking in terms of the sanity that being able to have a hot drink throughout the day brought me (a very long standing habit of mine, and it was tough for me to significantly reduce my ordinary black and green tea consumption).
regards, k

I hope we can come up with some herbal tea choices "approved" for the MP. Just dunking the tea bag a couple of times - why bother. I may as well drink a cup of warm water.
What about fresh ginger I like to put in my green tea? I wonder if that's ok w/the MP?

I tend to drink hot water as my allergies have not allowed much else during the first part of the MP. And the hot (filtered) water at least has the warmth that is comforting.
Another thing might be just a tad of honey added to some hot water (or maybe a tiny bit of vanilla extract). It is preferable to keep one's beverages to the level of subtances that are considered O.K. in the diet. We haven't forbidden eating ordinarily spiced foods to my knowledge, so a touch of something like ginger is probably O.K.
It is true, what Knochen says, that it is best to be conservative. But I guess we will learn from the people who try to stretch the rules. Over time, we may know more about what types of teas do not interfere.
Although we discourage too much tea or coffee, Trevor has said that throughout the MP he drank very weak green tea daily.
If one has problems with IP and/or making progress that is when one should reexamine anything one is doing that might be questionable. I do find that tea can inhibit my IP (I'm taking about green tea, I haven't tested others). Herbs do seem to have chlorogenic acid, that can contribute to blocking the VDR, so one shouldn't overdo them.
Anyway, those are my own thoughts on it.
