OK, I'm headed off on a trip. I used to have a pretty relaxed philosophy about packing that said, "There's nothing I can't live without." That way, if I forgot some convenience or "neccesity", it was easy to forgive myself because I could always buy another.
On the MP, not so. I mean, I'm thinking about "packing" my homemade bread, so I can have toast in the morning (since I know I'll not find my totally unfortified cereal and milk).
I thought I was done with packing [Odette, don't forget your Benicar -- which, for the first time I missed a dose today due to dental appt. and found out how I might be feeling without it ], and guess what? Last minute I realized I was about to go without my Mino!!!
And, I'm going to a funeral. I have two wide brim hats. A white Panama. A black felt. The funeral is in New Orleans. I can only bring one hat [buy a hat box, woman!]. The white Panama will certainly fit the clime better. But, wear it to a funeral? No, I bring the black one and have heat stroke.
OK, off to finish packing....

Well, thank goodness you started a grump stump, as we all need to grump every now and then...now if I could just think of something....
Oh yeah, the Dow Jones and world markets. Need I say more?
Oh, is this supposed to be MP related only?

Oh yes, *Odette's Grump Stump*--- no grumbling about this idea!!
I surely could have used this thread last week, when I mindlessly took more than my scheduled abx dose--- and paid for my careless ways!!!!!! Now feeling well and back on track, I will call this a post-grump-post!

Post-grump-post.
You can grump about anything here, MP related or not... because we know... it's ALL MP related!
Well, in New Orleans. I can't remember whose travel advice it was to get a window seat (ie. control to window shade), but yeah, first flight fine, second not so. But I've had my beni and a nap and am slowly coming round.
Thanks for listening, girlz.

| You just gave me a visual. Has anyone seen a common picture where there are whimsical birds painted different colors sitting on a phone, ( possibly napping), line wire. Some of us MP folks could all be standing in a line looking "whimisical and napping". ! Ok so if this isn't amusing - forgive me - not much sleep at the moment. Magsmom

Okay Deb...THAT was way to cheerful for a grump stump post!
I had something to grump about yesterday, but I forgot....
Oh yeah, to keep my dogs from waking my friend and care taker for feeding in the morning until she is ready to feed them (they know better than to wake me), I've had to shut them in the bedroom with me at night.
Well, I've been trying to make it a point to make sure they go out right before bedtime and had forgotten a couple of nights in a row (when they are used to just getting up in the middle of the night and taking care of business themselves).
Needless to say, I woke up with a puddle right in front of my bedroom door yesterday. Grrrr. The Grrrr is to me for forgetting to take them out at night. I won't do that again.

Claire, {re: they know better}, really got me laughing.
Speaking of those little angels, AKA "man's best friend" - has anyone seen the DQ commercial with the dog holding the bite of chicken in its mouth motioning for the dipping sauce, to dip it in. The dogs person responds 'you've got to be kidding'.
Well describing it may not sound funny but seeing it is a real LOL. Reminds me of my dog. Sorry, this isn't too grumpy A dog lover at heart. Magsmom

How happy I am this morning to have a place to *grump*!!! My medical with the airlines is almost up--November 25--to be exact!!! I was hoping that part time would be available to me--six flights a month seemed reasonable to work back into my job. But alas, when I spoke with my supervisor yesterday she informed me part time was not currently open. This is normal procedure it opens up and closes-- a bidding system, depending on need within each airport base.
...and if that wasn't disheartening enough...I also found out that due to FAA regulations requiring my license to be updated yearly...I would now need to go back to initial training (three weeks in Memphis) in order to be re-certified. OK, now that isn't a big deal, heh, I know my stuff. In fact a second time around would be a lot of fun as compared to the stress of doing this the first time....I would technically be the smartest person in class... but if I would choose this route and then not be able to fly full time...of course there goes my long term disability which I'm currently under. What a Catch-22!!! arggghhhh! It's a risk--- the truly sad part for me is that I love my work. I have read so many similar posts from others who have also had to give up positions and I know there are so many who understand my *pain*.
It's possible if I could stick this out, part time would open up and voila Deb would again be a Happy Flight Attendant once again. I am a great one and had many people tell me what a pleasure it was to fly on my plane---for those of you who travel regularly there has become a distinct trend of crabbiness in the air amongst flight attendants...and passengers are subjected to these daily moods. Luckily for me, this was a second career that I was ever so blessed to be hired into at 48!!! Being adventurous, it was truly my cup of tea...I've been trying to slowly wrap my arms around the fact that I just might not be able to fly again full time when my medical was up---as you are all probably thinking our health comes first before any #*%@ job!!! Yet, it is hard for me to think of letting go....
So, I'm thinking some very positive thoughts this morning, during my *grump session* that a ground job will open up and afford me a calmer transition on my body! Please keep me in your prayers....! and thanks for give me a place to vent..... Grumpy in Michigan!!!!

Today i need the Grump Stump for a continuation of PET PEEVES!!!
Our male cat, who has to be a reincarnated plumber or pianist, woke me an hour early by banging and meowling at our bedroom door. He was so insistent that I got up to make sure our house wasn't on fire! It wasn't. So he got shut to another bedroom.
The plumber part of this cat: He loves to flush the toilet and watch or play with the water as it swirls around. He can also turn the water on in the sink to get a drink. Now if he could only think to turn it OFF!!!
The piano part: He sits with his bottom on the bench and sits up like a human to press keys with his paws. Not to mention his staring down the piano tuner and twitching his ears while the piano is being tuned.
But his reason for waking me is that he wants OUT!!! NOW!!! He'll sit on the laundry room sink and reach to attempt to turn the door knob. If the sliding door is open and the screen door unlocked he can literally open that 5 inches to get to his freedom.
So while I admire this cat, I find him an incessant nuisance! Especially when cheating me out of sleep!!!!!

Deb,
You are in my prayers. Your grump is so much more legitimate than mine. Sometimes I think things work out for the best. It has with my quest to find a protocol back to health. I really feel led by a higher power to this place.
Perhaps the best job scenario is just beyond the horizon for you and you are "supposed to" take a bit more time to recover. How the disability laws are set up for people to have such horrible choices is just completely ridiculous. Hang in there!!!
Your grump day emoticon is hysterical! My male kitty and I both need a hug today!!! Argh!
Michele

Michele,
Your comment about a higher power leading you to the MP, is also my common thought. I always felt that the poor health I was struggling with, was a needle in a haystack and I would always be ill, to some degree---- after 18 years one starts to get a bit discouraged! I have known from the beginning what a gift the MP has been for me, as well as others....and I think you are right on....about a better job on the horizon....why does it seem that human nature is always in such a hurry??? Thanks, for pulling me and my priorities-- back to Planet Earth ...which in the end, truly is all about regaining my health!!!
Yeah, I am still grumpy though...and can use the lol!!!

Deb,
It's an awful choice, but obviously, regaining health is the top priority. It just doesn't seem fair. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something part time will open up... 'cuz I'd love to fly with you!

Deb,
You know what frequently happens when people rush to bake a cake or finish some other project to get onto something else? They forget something important and it doesn't turn out right or they are in a panic to get something or other done.
Fact is, you are not done yet.
And speaking of a higher power (and ditto to what Michele said), this longing and need for patience may be a test for you, a life lesson. I, too, think that something else may be meant for your future that you will just love and then you will have had flying and this new love (or you may fly again).
Sometimes you just got to let the mud settle so everything becomes clear, and pardon me for being presumptuous, but the mud isn't settled yet. My message: Slow Down.
Hugs and love to you, Claire
From Keb Mo's album "Slow Down" the lyrics from "Muddy Water" (one of my favorite):
If I never get to heaven I don't care
I been down to the crossroads
And there ain't no devil down there
They got the whole town shakin'
Out in L.A.
They got the blues in Mississippi
I'm going back some day
And I ain't gonna fuss and fight
I ain't stayin' up all night
Worryin' 'bout the things that I can't change
Let everybody think I'm a little bit strange
(Chorus)
'Cause I love Muddy Water
It's dirty but it feels alright
I love Muddy Waters
I'm ready for the blues tonight-ooh yes I am
On my way to California
My old car broke down
I left it sittin' right there
And I walked on into town
I found a cheap hotel
Got a twenty dollar room
And when I woke up the next day
It was four o'clock in the afternoon
Well I ain't gonna fuss and fight
I ain't stayin' up all night
Worryin' 'bout the things that I can't change
Let everybody think I'm a little bit strange
(Chorus)
Ooh why should I worry all night and day
Whatever it is
It's gonna be ok
From Keb Mo's album "Slow Down" the lyrics from "Everything I Need":
Ain't got no money
No where to sleep
No friend no family
No bread no meat
No bread no meat
No friend no family
No bread, no bread no meat
I ain't got no reason
Ain't got no rhyme
Ain't gettin' no younger
And I'm runnin' outta time
Runnin' outta time
Ain't gettin' no younger
And I'm runnin' outta time
Oh yes I am
(Chorus
But I'm still climbing up the mountain side
Don't count me out
Long as I got my heart and soul
I got everything
I got everything I need
Everything I need
Ain't got no window
Ain't got no door
But I can feel the sun shining
Where it's never shined before
Never shined before
Feel the sun shining where it's never shined before
(Chorus 2x)
But I'm still climbing up the mountain side
Can't count me out
Long as I got my heart and soul
I got everything
I got everything I need
Everything I need
Ain't got no picture
Ain't got no wall
Ain't got nobody
Hear me when I call
Hear me when I call
Ain't got nobody
Hear me when I call
From Keb Mo's album "Slow Down" the lyrics from "God Trying to Get Your Attention":
Well you might be saved
You might be reborn
You might own a car
With a big loud horn
Maybe it's just news
On your television
Or it might be God trying to get your attention
Are you an engineer
Working on a farm
Or a Casanova
With a whole lotta charme
It might be a mouse
Living in your kitchen
Or it might be God trying to get your attention
Well it might sound bad
Or it might sound good
Might be made of steel
Or it might be made of wood
Maybe it's just news
On your television
Or it might be God trying to get your attention
Well it might be in the church house
Or it might be on the street
Somehow or another
Every soul has got to meet
Well it might be in the city
Or it might be in town
One way or another
You're gonna find a higher ground
Well you might be deaf
Or you might be blind
She'll put the message
Right in your mind
Might look like a plan
Or a coalition
Or it might be God trying to get your attention
Well you might be deaf
Or you might be dumb
You'll get the answer
When the answer comes
Maybe it's just news on your television
Or it might be God trying to get your attention
It might be God trying to get your attention
Oh yeah
Listen to the birds
Listen to the trees
Listen to the river
Listen to the sea
Listen to the mountain
Listen to the land
Listen to the woman
Listen to the man
Listen to the rain
Listen to the wind
Listen to your mind
Then listen all over again
Listen to the birds
Listen to the trees
Listen to the river
Listen to the sea
Listen to the mountain
Listen to the land
Listen to the woman
Listen to the man
Listen to the rain
Listen to the wind
Listen to your mind
Then listen all over again

I'm feeling very very very grumpy (and dispirated) lately over the racism being displayed by folk at some political rallies and wonder if, as a country, we'll (us folk in the US) ever be free of this ugliness.
This is Keb Mo's "Just Like You": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGJza8vafsE&feature=related
This man's music speaks directly to my heart. How anyone could not listen to him and understand we have nothing to fear (at least in this country) from each other regardless of religion, national origin, race, etc. I don't understand.
At any rate, this video is being put on the grump stump as a salve to the pain I feel at the moment.

I feel you re. the racism problem, Claire. However, if I may recall your sentiments to Deb regarding timetables, I heard a piece on NPR's story court project about segregation and racism in the U.S. in the 1960's.
The U.S. has come a far piece toward ridding our country of racism since that time. We're not there yet and it's taking longer than we'd like, but we are making progress.
I would say that the presidential race is moving us all forward toward the democratic ideal of equal opportunity for all if by doing nothing more than shedding light on how much further we have to go.
