Does anyone else experience alot of mid & low back muscle cramping and pain after sitting at the computer?

What has worked well for you in alleviating this type of pain?

Do the obus forme back rest do any good?

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I've been plagued with this pain mid back and lower back off and on since starting MP;)  A small pillow behind my back does the trick.  In early Phase I though anything touching my back was painful, so it may be trial and error for some.  I also had relief later on in the MP with a chair massager, roll type back massager!  Ahhhhhh!  Hope this works for you.  If I'm lucky, I can talk my daughter into a gentle back massage, she has the   magic touch!

Your back rest idea sounds like something I would like to try, as a good alternate to using a pillow.

Probably helpful to get your posture and computer/workstation set up checked by a physio or occupational therapist (get the ergonomics checked out).  Could be something simple like your chari needs to be higher etc.  It's also important to take regular breaks from computer work - my work distributes charts of 'ergonomic exercises' (VERY gentle, more like stretches) that should be done regularly to avoid soft tissue injury.

Since beginning MP, I've had a lot of back pain as herx.  Sometimes too painful for anything to touch it, sometimes a hot water bottle helps, sometimes an icepack helps.

Over-the-counter pain medications help, as does increasing Benicar when needed.

Personally, I'm alway nervous about any type of massage in case it stirs up more herx.

regards,
k

HI LISA

This is Fred in WV.  My thoughs on the back pains.  We can get pains for different reasons.  But I always had back pain back in the 1970s.  Then I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis in Feb 1982.  Still had back pains but docs did not know why.  Then in 1995 I ran across a man from Ohio that had Sarc.  He ask if I every had back pain. I said yes.  He then told me that he had been sent to a doctor in Wheeling, WV.  That doc ask if he ever had back pain.  He said yes.  That doctor told him that back pain was a symptom of Sarcoidosis and it was not written down any where.

Also, I watch Dr G on TV and on one of her shows she had a man that had died from MARSA and he had back pain for several years.  Dr G said that the MARSA have been in his back muscle for some time before it killed him.  She said it was deep into the back muscle.  So what I am trying to say is that these TH1 bactiera gets deep into our back muscles and causes this pain.  This is most likely why people have a lot of back pain and the doctors can not find any reason for the pain.  It will not show on x-rays or MRIs or any other tests that the doctors can do.  So I always took some type of pain med for my and exercises.

I hope this helps in some way.

Remember, we are all in this together and I am pulling for us.

Your friend in Sarcoidosis

Freddie

Hi Thelymelight,

I had a bulging 5th lumber disc in 96 and really started to notice sensitivity/pain/weakness of my back after my hysterectomy in 2005.  I'm not noticing the symptoms now that I'm in phase 2 (Sarcoidosis). I'm looking forward to my bones eventually being inflamation free, and muscle/bone rebuilding over the next 10 yrs.
There is 2x the back pressure when sitting as opposed to standing.

Things can only get better!

Lisa,

It's varied for me from time to time.  Early on back pain was definite herx, along with frozen shoulders and other muscle and joint aches.

Now, the mid-to-low back pain is related to too much sun/light exposure, and the kidneys complaining about having to flush the junk out.  I notice this faster in front of the CRT at work than the LCD laptops.  It's getting steadily better, and now a simple pair of plastic reading glasses to cut the UV seems to be enough to get through a day in front of the computer.

So, positional aids might solve the problem, but do check to see if it's light related and maybe get those 40% NOIRs, or maybe simple sunglasses.

Chris

Hello Folks,
Looks like I'm getting to enjoy this reaction because of light.  I'm still getting the bat cave setup and as I work in front of 3 computer monitors for at least 8 hours a day - I have lower to mid back cramps (that didn't happen up until I started benicar - I have a very comfortable chair)
The irritation behind my eyes feels like chewing tinfoil - weird I know...and when I take off my 2% NOIR's - I instantly feel nauseous.

Hopefully this will diminish as the bat cave becomes truly dark.
Regards
John
