Although I have had to reduce my thyroid dose my weight has been more of a problem on the MP the before.  Seems like my metabolism should be better now and naturally adjusting and weight coming off but alas it has not. Any clue on when and if my body will begin to adjust and I can lose this baggage?

Celeste

hi Celeste,
Given no one else has responded, I figured I might as well.  I have been on the MP almost a year.  I joined the main MP site a few months before that to do research and reading.  Over the year I have done quite a bit of reading of the MP site, including other people's experiences.

Firstly, have you read the following link about Weight in the "ABC of MP" (on the main MP site) called "Will the MP help me lose weight?": http://www.marshallprotocol.com/forum32/5019.html
Under 'Weight Loss' there are also links for Obesity, and Guidelines for Exercise whilst on the MP.

I don't know how long you have been on the MP.  But if you have been on the MP for say only 6-10 months, it would seem to me that that is a pretty short time frame to be expecting any significant weight loss.  I have read of other members who didn't notice any decrease in weight until after 2 years on the MP.

My own personal experience is that I put on about 13kgs during the course of being sick.  For me, this has not actually made me overweight, but I would really like my 'old body' back - I have a wadrobe full of clothes I can't fit into.  It may not seem like a lot of weight to gain to others - but to me who has never had any issues with weight in the past, and to currently be at my largest, it is significant.  In the first few months on the MP after a few weeks of herxing which made me nauseous (although no actual vomiting) and completley uninterested in food, I lost about 4kgs.  I was ecstatic!  But alas, once that herx passed and my appetite returned it came right back again. : (

At one stage in Phase 2 when I was feeling absolutely fantastic I lost about 2kgs.  I attribute this to be able to be a lot more active - I wasn't excercising, but instead of driving to my train station was able to walk for example, and doing more things around the house - lots of little things like that.  Since then I've had quite a lot of herxing and haven't been able to be as active, and the weight has come back.

My approach is to try not to worry and just have faith that the MP is making me well, and eventually I'll be well enough again to exercise.  And that it will be much easier to lose the weight once I'm well, than while I'm doing the MP.  And also to be grateful that I'm not any sicker, and that I found the MP.  Believe me, I would really like to lose the weight, but I try not to worry about it and to focus all my body-related efforts on the MP.

Hang in there,

regards,
k

Great answer, K.  That's pretty much what I planned on saying.  I put on 40 pounds from being sick and then starting the MP.  I've just reached 15 months on treatment and have cycled through about 6 pounds on to off to on to off.  My diet remains largely the same, as does my amount of exercise.  I walk our dogs and do yoga every day.  When I feel more well, I walk farther.  When I am less well, I walk less farther.  And the weight is indifferent to what I do.

Sometimes I eat more carbs and put weight on.  Sometimes I eat more carbs and lose weight.  It seems to be a Th1 issue and not one of diet or exercise.  I put weight on in the Fall, but it starts to come off again mid-January.

So I've given up.  I take my meds, live as healthily as possible, get my rest, try to stay sane about it and I'm waiting until a significant number of CWD bacteria die my body will trim down to where it used to be prior to CFS/MCS.

My dream goal is to get well and then run marathons.  I want to be rangy looking like a cow that's been left loose on 600 acres of wild land.

Same hereI gained a lot of weight before beginning the MP and no matter what I did it wouldn't come off.  My muscles didn't even respond to exercise, which I did a lot of.  I went to an exercise class where we worked out for six hours and had an hour for lunch and then did six more hours.  My muscles felt nothing the day after.

Even on the MP I lost nothing, until I recently dropped 5 lbs.  I wasn't even trying.  But it stopped there and doesn't want to keep going lower.  My doctor said it was probably because she increased my thyroid, but we've been increasing and decreasing on the meds and the thyroid won't seem to settle somewhere :X.  Sometimes I totally lose interest in food and don't eat much and it makes no difference.

So, I'm with you Juanita.  I'll just wait it out and hope for the best when it decides to happen.  I sure hope it does.

Omigosh, did I ever goof !  I'd be dead if I had done 12 hours in a single day.  It was a total of six hours.  Three hours before lunch and three hours after.  Whew! :?

I have been on the MP for one year now.  I have gained about 10 pounds, enough to require buying one size bigger pants.  I can't button up any of my previous pants.  My weight has been the same for my whole adult life, until now.  Luckily, I was slim before, so the extra weight isn't terribly unattractive, but it's kind of expensive to buy new clothes, in addition to all the medical bills.  I now weigh more than I have ever weighed, including the day I gave birth to my daughter (28 years ago.)  Weight has never been an issue before.  I don't even own a scale, but I weigh myself on occasion at other places.

I would like to hear others people's experiences with weight since starting the MP.  I used to eat tons of seafood, and no red meat.  For the MP, I had to cut out the seafood, and have added beef and pork, so maybe that's to blame for the weight gain.

I don't know if it's the MP, or just a natural part of aging.  I'm 46 years old, and I read that women are supposed to gain weight as they get close to menopause.  Fatty tissues secrete estrogen, and the theory is that the extra fat producing estrogen will help offset the decease as the ovaries shut down.

Hi All-
My doctor has been trying me on Armour thryroid medication since my labs shown I have hyshmotiois and my reverse T3 was high.

I have not been successful with, my hair falls out (it didn't before), my limbs remain cold - ice cold and I feel sleepy.  I tried two different kinds of armour  with the same results.

I'm underweight also.

Any ideas?? I know the pathogens dysregulate the T3 receptors.

thanks,
sue

Hi Guys,

Yeah weight is an issue for me as well.  I started gaining weight 3 years ago when my Hot Flashes hit as they made me feel hypoglycemic. Also started losing sleep and compensating with too many calories. Gained 10 pounds in two years. Also Fibro was hitting me hard and while I worked out in gym and followed Weight Watchers calorie restrictions I could only lose 4 or so pounds and level off.

Then the need for Prednisone which put on another 8 pounds in 5 months. I assumed I would lose weight on the MP due to the food restrictions. But I think I got so caught up in watching VD, and other restrictions that I overate the allowed foods and forgot a bit about calories total.  As well as a big decrease in activity with herxing.  No gym, no dog walks to avoid sun as well as just to dizzy.

So now that I have been through P1 and starting P2 I got out my weight watcher's log and have been charting calories again and low and behold when I'm faithful to counting calories the scale does move even without exercise. In the last 3 weeks I have lost 3 pounds.  Not bad considering I was gaining steadily before the diet changes.

So consider calorie restrictions because mindless grazing and nibbling on nuts or having starches and red meats that we may not be used to can add on the calories and we can't forgot about those just because we are watching Vd, etc.

When I say I'm feeling weak my family tries to blame it on the fact that I do so little. I just roll my eyes at them.  I'm weak because I'm herxing. Sure no doubt my muscle is atrophying a bit right now but I trust that will come back as I progress and am more able to exercise.  Right now my body is working hard enough at processing the garbage of bugs.  Also I do tend to rebound a bit with added strength as I'm nearing the end of dose of Mino...that would not happen if it was just lack of activity and muscle loss that was making me weak. I would not suddenly just feel stronger when I have not done any exercise. So I think my muscle weakness is perceived through herxing symptoms not in actuality.

Grateful student of the MP  Nelda

You're on the right track and that is getting rid of the pathload that changes all the hormones as we herx.  Just look up hair loss in the Merck manual. and the ABC of MP.

There is a diet that I have tried on occasion, and I think it seems pretty reasonable and effective. It is based on research that indicates that one can lose weight and have better luck keeping it off if one doesn't go too long without eating.  This keeps one from going into starvation mode, which can reduce the metabolic rate and make it harder to keep the weight off.

It is called the Three Hour Diet, by Jorge Cruise.  It doesn't require exercise and is pretty simple -- it advocates moderate carbs and is very flexible on what you can eat.  The pattern of meals and snacks is the key to the approach -- you never go for more than 3 hours without either a 400 calorie meal or a 100 calorie snack (except overnight, of course).  I still think it best to not go too heavy on the carbohydrates (I also am not too keen on a lot of yogurt, which is mentioned as a snack -- for me it increases IP).  You also are supposed to eat within an hour of getting up and to not eat a meal within 3 hours of bedtime.

If you try it, let me know if you find it helpful.
