Here's a question that has bugged me for a long time.  And since it's has to do with diet and what people eat I'll post it here.

I'm a believer that the less carbs one eats the better, especially since the bugs I'm hosting seem to love carbohydrates and my brain fog clears considerably when I restrict them.  But my understanding is that when eating a true low-carb diet one needs to replace the carbohydrates with fat (because the body can only use carbs or fat for fuel, and not protein).  So this normally means eating a lot of animal fat and I have found, thru both research and experience, that all animal fat (dairy fat, meat fat) contains enough vitamin D that if eaten in quantities high enough for it to be the primary fuel source for the body will result in a significant level of vitamin D consumption.  I suppose one could use nuts and plant oils as the source of fat and the primary fuel, but not sure how healthy that would be.  So my question is, is it possible to eat a true low-carb diet (as opposed to a "Zone" diet or moderate carb diet) while on the MP?  How do people achieve this?

Thanks.

Sorry Russ, I don't know the answer to that one though I do try to eat a moderately low carb diet and low fat meat (save for the turkey kielbasi that I've never been able to give up).

QUESTION ABOUT ACCEPTABLE ICE CREAM....

Has anyone found any ice creams that don't add D?  I'd like to have one every now and then as a treat and figure I'd save myself the research.

Thanks, Claire

eClaire, Check out coconutbliss.com.  Their ice cream is to die for and for people like me who can't have dairy, eggs, soy, etc. because of food sensitivities it was a gift sent from heaven!

Claire,  I have a non-dairy organic 'ice cream' by Rice Dream.  http://www.hain-celestial.ca

Its made from organic brown rice syrup, does have some sunflower/safflower oil in the ingredient  listing , but I eat it as a taste treat, and anything sweet seems to aggravate the restless legs.  This flavour I have now is Orange Vanilla and tastes like an orange sherbet ice cream...  just realized though this is a Canadian product and dont know how wide spread their distribution is, may not be accessible to you. I use their Rice Dream as a milk subsitute.

Anyway , dont know is this is any help but  ...for what is is worth!

Heather

I've checked out coconut bliss before and ruled it out (don't remember why).  I think Rice Dream is sold in a local health food store here.  Thanks Heather.

Claire,

I know you haven't had the energy for this, but how about making your own frozen deserts? I keep thinking about it, but haven't managed to keep a long enough train of thought to do something with the idea.

PROTEIN WAFFLES/PANCAKES  MP Style

1 serving will make 2 small waffles or pancakes

1/2 cup of low fat cottage

4 egg whites

1/2 cup of quaker oats

1-2 tablespoons Cinnamon

1 tabelspoon of vanilla

I would also suggest adding sliced banana's or blueberrys for more tast.  I also add a small amount of sugar free syrup.

Enjoy!

JC
